Uh oh... Look familiar? An unfortunate desription we used to describe easy, not so well-endowed girls in high school was "flat as a board and easy to nail." That description better suits the Dodgers performance last night at Dad's House. The Padres and Cha Seung Baek shut them down on four lousy hits and Martin, Manny and Kemp stunk more than the elephant dung at the nearby San Diego Zoo. Say it with me: CHAH-SEE-YOUNG-BAY-ECK. As far as the Dodgers were concerned, you can call him Cha Cy Young Baek. How can they knock him around for 7 earned runs in 4 and 2/3 innings a few days ago and be completely baffled by him last night? How? Because they're on the road. And the Dodgers just plain stink on the road.
When the Blue look this flat, you can pretty much bet they're not going to climb out of it the next game. I told you they were a streaky team. If they can somehow hold on to make the playoffs, there's no way they're ever going to have home field advantage, so you can count on them to lose all their road games. After all, these will be good teams, not the minor leage Padres. So, another big losing streak in the making? Based on their offense the last two games, it sure looks that way. And the Snakes won't be facing the great Tim Lincecum tonight. Once again, the Dodgers have failed to maintain intensity and stability. Dr. Maddux has stunk since rejoining the Dodgers. He should be sued for malpractice. Perhaps I spoke too soon in jumping on the Blue badwagon in predicting they'd take the awful West. The Rockies still lurk and the Dodgers have 9 more in a row on the road. The Snakes are prepared to take any gifts the Dodgers give them.
Look, I know he would've been out anyway, and it isn't the reason they lost - though one can make an argument for it from the standpoint of attitude - but did anyone see Matt Kemp make the last out of the game last night. Down 4-zip, Ethier on 2nd, he hits a slow ground ball to Adrian Gonzalez's brother at second base and ... he jogs. He jogs to first base on the last out with his team in a pennant race. And he's fast and there was a slight chance something - anything - could've happened. I mean, these ARE the Padres. Matt, have you seen Chase Utley play the game? Have you seen Dustin Pedroia play the game? Have you seen the way the entire Angels team plays the game? You're a freakin' goddamn Major League Baseball player. When you hit a ground ball, put your stupid damn head down and run like hell. Period. Torre needs to sit his ass down.
Tonight will tell if we're back on the roller coaster. And it's not a Roller Coaster of Love. Say what?
